Bringing Colour to Geelong

Well, it’s official! I’ve ticked off a number of milestones this week. I’ve painted my first mural for 2025 and it’s also technically* my first public art mural in Geelong, Victoria! Wooo!

This Youth Hub is undergoing a total transformation with a new kitchen, furniture, internal murals (painted by local teens), plus it now as a new mural on the outside. I had the pleasure of working with Steph Dunbar (Coordinator of Youth Development) and Katharine Oliver (Senior Public Art Officer) who both made this project possible. They are working together to make this Youth Hub a place for youth to belong and gain access to a range of services.

The installation for this project involved avoiding painting the main part of the building which is brick, and transforming the beige pillars into a landmark. I’ve made each section like a collage with a range of sharp, crisp shapes and also gradients and organic lines. The biggest challenge for this was working with a corner wall where overspray was my enemy! But with lots of layers and a bucket load of patience, it began to take shape.

Thank you the City of Greater Geelong for inviting me to paint this mural. I can’t wait to see this youth hub thriving and being a pathway where youth can connect, get involved in fun actives and find help if they need it.

*(For my friends who have watched my painting journey for some time now, yes, you’re right! I have previously painted a mural at Geelong Baptist College and I did an internal mural at Powerhouse years ago, but this is my first public art project with the City of Greater Geelong Council. And what a unique project it was! It’s my first wall in Geelong since moving here mid 2024! So let’s celebrate!)
