From Geelong to Adelaide: 3 Inspiring Ceramic Studios

Let me tell you about three ceramic studios that I am totally inspired by and guarantee you will be too.

  1. Elizabeth Bell Ceramics (Fyansford, Geelong)

Elizabeth Bell Ceramics is located at the Fyansford Paper Mills in Victoria. It is an idyllic scenery, outlooking untouched Australian plants and Buckley’s falls. You literally hear the water gushing over rocks as you work on the wheel. The historic building has a gentle atmosphere that abounds creativity. Libby is an incredible potter and a true entrepreneur, standing out as a leader of women in business in Geelong. Her studio is a vibrant hub where you can shop, take classes, or simply experience the magic of clay. I’m beyond grateful that she has taken me on as a teacher in 2024. This is a creative hub of gorgeous people who love clay.

2. Home Thrown by Jen (Adelaide)

Home Thrown by Jenni Evans is a hidden gem and the most magical space. Jen is a dear friend and I am so thankful to have crossed paths with her many times at creative events and markets in Adelaide. Jen gave me a tour of her home studio and I was completely inspired by her set up, having a detached studio, purpose built, that uses every square meter to its fullest! She frequently hosts open studio events, so make sure to follow her on Instagram for updates. When you’re in Adelaide, you can find her at a local markets. Her work has a unique style, and I’m proud to say I have several of her pieces in my own kitchen. It’s a studio full of heart and creativity.

3. Ceramics by Viv (Adelaide Hills)

A visit to Viv Donnelly’s studio in the Adelaide Hills is a treat for the senses. As soon as I drove down the dirt driveway, surrounded by towering gums and sweeping views of the countryside, I knew I was about to experience something special. Viv’s studio is purpose built with a wood fire, generous wheel set up, brightly lit with natural light from expansive windows. The atmosphere has a strong connection to nature and slowing down. I just wanted to sit in the space all day. Viv’s work is textural and so inviting to hold, plus she’s a kind soul and has made this space for her own work and to run lessons. She offers guest experiences for Sequoia Lodge and Mount Lofty House as well as private functions. Need to retreat and revive? Take a class with Viv or visit when she has an open studio, you will be so glad you did.
