2024 Street Art Professional Development
Full confession…
I’m an art teacher nerd.
I love talking to you about weird topics like, your art department storage space! Getting to design a day to fully nerd out on all things you love. From the projects you're dreaming of to the creativity of your student, it all fills my cup. I love hearing your stories.
The 2024 Adelaide Street Art PD, made my cup overflow!
Thank you to everyone who came and spent the day with me. I had teachers from Adelaide Hills to Wudinna and everywhere in-between. We started the day with an aerosol workshop, using Hardcore’s, 94’s and Water Based. Spray painting a corrugated fence, experimenting with nozzles, stencils, freehand, gradients and patterns.
Everyone was buzzing with excitement after this.
Next we focused on curriculum and how to use aerosol safely in a classroom setting. From what materials to buy, where to buy them and strategies to put in place so you can feel more confident using spray paint with your students.
After lunch we explored the street art around Prospect, seeing work by Sarah Boese, Jack Fran, Claire Foxton, Kab 101, Peter Drew and Matthew Stuckey. Visiting Newmarch Gallery to the current exhibition by Wesley Tyson Maselli, we were able to discuss the differences between work in galleries and public art. City of Prospect’s Public Art Officer, Ed James joined us on the tour and shared his knowledge and experience working with artists.
To finish the day I had a spread of prizes giveaway. A very big thank you to Inspirations Paint Parafield and Montana Colors who supplied prizes and goodie bags for teachers. If you get excited by gifts of painters tape and Marcador Markers, you are my kind of people! These bags were so full of goodies, I had to give everyone two bags!
Thank you to Kate from Urban Safari for photographing the day and for your gorgeous sunshine you bring to every event.
Where would I be without Darlene McDonald? She assisted the day and helped everything run smoothly with the catering and capturing footage of the day.
Thank you to Cafe Komodo for letting us go crazy, painting and practicing on your fence.
