2022 Street Art PD

Getting to spend the day with a room full of creative educators has been a huge highlight this year! In 2022 during Term 2 and Term 4, I ran a Street Art Professional Development day. Each event was bursting with colour, creativity, and new friendships. Sharing my passion for public art and discussing the evolving art form with enthusiastic teachers was amazing. Both events had a range of primary and secondary teachers who were eager to learn more about street art and how to paint a mural at their school.

Thank you to everyone who came along to build your curriculum! I loved demonstrating aerosol skills and seeing you practice and build your understanding of the medium. I’m sure you’re all going to do incredible classes with your students.

The day was jam-packed, with delicious coffee, tasty morning tea, a street art tour, an aerosol workshop, and time for some theory discussions. We looked at the best materials to buy including Montana Colors Water Based Aerosols that are amazing for indoor use and classroom settings because they are low odor. We tried out Night Quill’s as they are brilliant for students with small hands to aid them pressing down the aerosol nozzle. I shared how to price a mural, the difference between street art and vandalism, the procedure for applying for Expressions of Interest (EOIs), and safety in the classroom.

Thank you to Montana Colors and Inspirations Paint Parafield for supplying amazing gifts and prizes for the teachers at the Term 4 event. Everyone went home with a goodie bag packed with quality brushes, merch, and acrylic paint to try back in the classroom. One lucky teacher went home with 10L of paint thanks to Inspirations Paint!

The PD was a very informative and a fun day! We experimented with aerosol and Leah gave us a fantastic insight into street art and how educators can include it in the classroom in a safe and engaging way.
— Julia Cricelli, Gawler and District College Art and Media Teacher
Leah is a clear, warm and generous communicator. The content was fun and relevant.
— Rebecca Hicks - Willunga Waldorf School Art Teacher
I loved the street art tour! What I loved most about it was Leah’s passion in presenting and the way she spoke about art. Leah has a very special way of making everyone feel capable and creative and any reservations I had, very quickly disappeared. Leah inspired me to rise to this challenge and rediscover my own passion for painting.
