Leah Grant brings colour and creativity to classrooms

A curved brick wall in a central part of the Lara Lake Primary School grounds became the perfect canvas for a mural.

I had the pleasure of painting this work in the prep area during 2025, and spending time at the school was an absolute highlight. The students were a joy to meet, overflowing with curiosity, excitement, and very specific requests for me to paint “6/7” somewhere on the wall.

One moment that really stayed with me was when an entire prep class walked past while I was still in the early stages, just blocking in colour. Without any prompting, they began applauding. I was completely taken aback, there was no detail yet, just shapes and colour but they were already so enthusiastic about seeing something bright and playful taking shape on their wall.

That excitement and sense of ownership from the students was incredibly special. Seeing art spark curiosity and joy in such an immediate way is exactly why I love working in school spaces.

Thank you to Assistant Principal Emma Castelow for inviting me to spend time at Lara Lake Primary School and create something inspiring for the students. It was an absolute pleasure to be part of your school community, even briefly.
